Cullingworth West Yorkshire Engagement photography

Engagement photography in West Yorkshire

I was met with a hug from Gemma and Matt for their engagement photo session. I knew straight way that these two were the loveliest of couples and it was going to be a great engagement photo session. We met in West Yorkshire, somewhere between Harden and Cullingworth to visit Goit Stock wood. This is probably my favourite location for engagement photos. It’s such a pretty hidden gem, that has a magical and romantic feel to it. The magnificent waterfall, with its gentle flowing waters plunging gracefully into the serene pool below, creates an awe-inspiring and picturesque backdrop that feels it’s made for capturing stunning photographs.

I can’t wait to see Gemma and Matt again at their Holdsworth House wedding this weekend.

Their love story

We don’t have a simple love story. We met at a flat party in 2013 at University, but were really just friends for a while. Then later in 2013 we went to Amsterdam and came back as a couple. We were together until 2015 when we both finished University and I moved to London and Matt stayed in Yorkshire. Being 21, we decided we were too young for long distance, so went our separate ways but stayed friends as much as you can. Fast forward to 2021 following COVID, I decided to move back home to Yorkshire to be close to family. Matt and I rekindled and it felt like we started where we left off. Following a family holiday in 2022, we took Matt’s parents for afternoon tea at Aldwark Manor (as a thank you for inviting us on the holiday). Matt and I got there early and we were amazed by the place. It was beautiful and we joked about getting married somewhere like that. December 2022, Matt took me to Aldwark Manor as a surprise. We had a lovely afternoon spa session and checked into a beautiful suite as we got ready for dinner. I came out of the bathroom to put some jewellery on, and realised the TV was off and ‘a thousand years’ was playing. He grabbed my hand to start slow dancing in his nervous state and then got down on one knee and proposed!

Thanks so much Matt and Gemma, for being super easy going and a joy to photograph.
