People in Lock Down - Doorstep Portraits by Skipton Photographer

People in lockdown

Lock down #1

In March everything changed and life as we know it came to a sudden halt. Most of us felt struggles in a variety of ways. I think most battled with being indoors. We’ve felt lonely or stressed. Exhausted by entertaining the kids and juggling work. We had no social or creative outlets, our hobbies stopped. Family and friends visits stopped. Education and work changed. We worried for our families safety, we worried for a job security. Some of us dealt with job losses or worse, family or friend losses. Did we think these things would still be going on 8 months later? Did we expect another lockdown. Probably not, we was still trying to find toilet roll and flour in the supermarket back then.

For me, money became a big worry as wedding were cancelled and no family shoot could go ahead either. My work doesn’t just providing a living, it is a passion. So not having the creative outlet has been pretty tough. I miss shooting wedding and really feel for couples that have had their plans interrupted and turned upside down throughout this year. I’m holding my breath for my only two remaining weddings in December.

Doorstep Portraits

Back in April I decided to make my daily walks more meaningful and started my doorstep portraits project. I found my doorstep photos gave me an aim for my walks. It gave me a small bit of socialising even if it was only exchanging a few sentences with strangers. It did wonders for my wellbeing without even realising it. It felt good to use my skill and give something to my community. These doorstep portraits are a record of this time.

I want to say big thank you to all the people that took part and supported me. I raised £351, of which 100% went to Forget Me Not Charity. They are not government funded and do amazing work for children and families. You can still donate to this worthy charity if you can spare a small amount of money. Donate here

I hope you enjoyed taking part or following my doorstep portraits projects and I hope everyone is finding lockdown #2 easier.
