A Cosy Winter Wedding in the Yorkshire Dales

Falcon Manor is a stunning country house wedding venue located in Settle in the Yorkshire Dales, perfect for couples planning a relaxed countryside wedding in North Yorkshire.

Weddings at The Falcon Manor in Settle

Falcon Manor in Settle is one of my favourite Yorkshire wedding venues. Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, it offers a perfect mix of elegant interiors and a beautiful garden. It’s an incredible setting for wedding photography in every season. It has a great mix of indoor and outdoor spaces which work perfectly for wedding photography in any season. The gardens are ideal for couple portraits and there are plenty of beautiful backdrops around the venue grounds. If you're planning a wedding here, it’s definitely worth setting aside 10-15 minutes for photos.

Tell us about the proposal

We were in a hotel in Edinburgh. We had been a few times before and loved it.

Joe got down on one knee and proposed whilst we were looking out the window at a view of the Old Town and the castle. Rhi couldn’t believe it and asked if he was joking about ten times. We then went out and celebrated in Edinburgh with a few too many drinks.

How did you meet? How long have you been together?

We met on a dating app (Bumble) and we have been together nearly 5 years

I have to ask about the dress

I had no idea what I wanted. I went to the National Wedding Fair at the NEC Arena in Birmingham and tried on a few styles. I tried on a dress by Lillian West and loved it but wanted to go shopping with all my bridesmaids.

I found a shop in Doncaster that stocked the designer (Dorothy Eloise Bridal). I took all my bridesmaids and tried a few dresses but kept going back to the same one I tried in Birmingham. I went to another dress shop but couldn’t find anything I loved more and so called Dorothy Eloise Bridal and bought the dress the same day.

The seamstress at the shop (Handmade by Emily Kate) added me a sparkly belt to give the dress a bit of bling and I absolutely love it!

The first look moment

As I waited for the first look I was nervous and excited, but having all the staff talking about Rhi’s ankle and what was the best way to do the first look took my mind off the ceremony and I relaxed.

Rhi looked amazing and the first look set us both at ease.

As I walked into the ceremony and heard the rowdy groomsmen, I couldn’t look at anyone as the nerves kicked in. I made a beeline to my spot and stood still. When I was able to turn around I saw Rhi’s beaming smile and all our family and friends.

As I walked down the aisle I was probably the happiest I have ever felt. Seeing so many loved ones in one room and Joe waiting for me at the top of the aisle, knowing we were finally at the day we had been planning for 2 years, I felt happiness, relief and excitement. I was also nervous about stumbling over my vows.

I’m so glad Joe and I did a first look as it took the pressure off and gave us our own little moment before sharing it with family and friends.

The suit?

We kept changing our minds on the suit. We knew we wanted green because we both like the colour and both wear a lot of green.

Again we were all about ease and simplicity where we could, so we chose a suit that would work for all of the groomsmen and dads, with a tie matching the bridesmaid dresses.

Why did you choose me to photograph your wedding?

We were given Gemma’s card by Falcon Manor and when we saw her portfolio of stunning, candid photos we knew she would be perfect for us.

When we met her for the engagement shoot she put us at ease and we knew we made the right decision. She was brilliant at the wedding, taking the staged photos we needed but also the candid ones and behind the scenes moments, capturing things we otherwise would have missed.

She was chilled, funny yet professional and kept the groomsmen in check!

If you're planning a wedding at Falcon Manor and looking for relaxed, natural photography, I'd love to hear about your plans.

Was there anything you wish you’d known before

The day goes very fast, you will not remember every moment and that is okay. Just enjoy each moment throughout the day.

What song did you choose for your first dance, and why?

Iris by Goo Goo Dolls.

We don’t have ‘a song’ as a couple and so chose this simply because we liked it and felt we could do some form of dance to it.

Do you have any advice for couples in the planning stages?

Everyone will have an opinion, whether about the invites, traditions, the ceremony or anything else.

It is your day. Make it special for you and do what you want to do.

Falcon Manor in Settle is such a beautiful venue for a Yorkshire Dales wedding, especially in winter when the cosy interiors make the day feel even more special. It’s always a pleasure photographing weddings here.

If you're planning a wedding at Falcon Manor and looking for relaxed, natural photography that captures real moments, I’d love to hear about your plans.
